Fundraising!

After having spent a several weeks here at the Children’s home, we (the three volunteers) have decided that we want to try to contribute with some support and things for the children.  We really like the place, and can see that it is a good place to be for the children, even if the economy is tight. They are taken good care of, they are provided with decent food, they are allowed to have playtime and the most important one  - they are given a proper education by Gandhigram Trust. The children themselves also seem to be happy and satisfied with the life they have here, and get along with each other well. In the mornings and afternoons they are small helpers around the property here, and take part in daily routines. They help cleaning, washing their clothes (they are far better than me at it, for sure!), helping out in the garden, plays with the smallest children and so on, when they don’t run around playing :) 

So, all in all we are very happy about this place, and therefore want to help them out with some new things. And that is where we hope to get some help from YOU! 

Even if the children have all basic needs covered, we see that clothes, backpacks, sandals etc. are starting to get worn out. It would also be nice to buy them some new pens and books for school. We have therefore decided that this will be our first priority. Depending on how much we manage to raise, we will figure out what other needs we can help covering. Maybe we will try to make a fund for later in addition. But since there are 175 children here, we will first of all focus on the earlier mentioned things. In addition we want to have a small (well, nothing is small with 175 children…) party here, where we buy some snack, soft drinks etc. and do some fun things together with them.

Our Projects Abroad-contact, Pandi, has been very helpful and has found us a good place where we can buy the stuff we need. Examples of approxamate prices are:

Backpack                         Rs 200 / 39 NOK    / 5     USD

Set of underwear              Rs 70   /  10 NOK   / 1,5  USD

T-shirt + shorts/skirt         Rs 200  /  30 NOK /   5    USD

So you can see, we can get quite far with the money down here – even 50 – 100 NOK will make a big difference! We will in any case give our share, and everything we receive over this will be a bonus :)

NB! If it’s possible, we wish to have the money by the 17^th of February, so that me and Marie both can go and do the arrangements before she leave. But if we receive some after, we will of course bring that too to the right person.
